We have been searching for the meaning of dreams since the beginning of mankind.  We have learned where our dreams come from, and quite often what caused us to have a particular dream.   We have many types of dreams ranging from the exotic or sexual dream to very frightening dreams.  We see images, hear sounds, and sometime can feel sensations in our dreams.  There are times when we hear voices in our dreams that we cannot control.  We know all of these things about dreaming, but we have not yet learned why we dream.

Do dreams have special meanings?  Are dreams brought on by incidents that happened during the day, or during this week or month?

Although we do not know why we dream, and we certainly have plenty of theories, we are still looking for the answer.  We know dreams originate in the brain, but do not understand what the neurological cause is.  We do know there are 5 phases of sleep and that we dream in all of them.  Most believe dreams are reflections of the subconscious mind, and some believe they are predictions of the future.   There are even some people who believe dreams are messages from God.     There is no doubt that dreams have inspired many artistic forms.

Dreams can be described as symbols used by the subconscious mind to impress the material or objective conscious mind.  A person’s dream perception wavers, much as it does in waking hours.

You fail to find the same fragrance in the rose at all times, though we all recognize a rose when we see one.  Whatever symbol is used to impress the dreamer is the one which is likely to stimulate them more definitely than any other.  Different dreamers can have different dreams about the aroma or color of the rose, but the dream is still about the rose, and will be interpreted by those different dreamers to convey the same meaning.  This is why the symbol or word (which is the description of the symbol.) will cause different dreams to be interpreted the same.  In this case there are two different dreams about two different aromas and colors, which led us to the theme of the dream, which is the rose.  Dreaming about roses is considered to be a very good dream so this dream would be interpreted as a happy and content one.

You may think that you have identical dreams, but there is always some variation, even if it is something you immediately dreamed over. The thoughts in our minds are constantly changing, so there is bound to be changes in the details of every dream.  This change would not materially affect the existence of happiness or sorrow in us, and thus the same dreams are all reliable.

Just as you can have different dreams with the same meaning, you can have similar dreams that will have entirely different meanings.  The personality, sex, age and temperament of a person can influence the dream dramatically.   If a woman that is 32 years old and a young girl of 18 should both have a dream about marriage, the influences on their lives would most certainly affect the meaning of the dream.  Different influences will cause the unconscious mind to approach the subject of marriage differently.    Both dreams will be about marriage, but the theme of the dreams will be different.

Dreaming about a yard stick is a sign that some acquaintances are not measuring up to their potential.

Yarn

To dream of yarn Indicates thoughts of baby’s and young children have been occupying your mind.

Yawning

If you yawn in your dreams it indicates you are searching in vain for positive professional opinions and contentment concerning your health.

To see a Yule log indicates joyous and promising expectations for the coming year.
